At the Icahn Institute for Data Science and Genomic Technology, we use systems genetics that combines epidemiology, genomics, proteomics, and metabolomics to study cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). Our goal is to better understand the molecular landscape of regulatory networks acting within and across metabolic and vascular tissues that causes CVD in humans. Personal introduction:
Roeland Merks is Professor of Multiscale Mathematical Biology at Leiden University. Merks’ research interests concern the systems biology of pattern formation in multiscale, multicomponent biological systems, focusing in particular on vascular development and microbial ecosystems. For this he combines mathematical and computational modelling, often based on hybrid Cellular Potts models, with experimental work based on cell culture approaches.

Michael Stumpf is a professor of theoretical systems biology at the University of Melbourne. His research focuses on using mathematical, statistical and computational methods to understand how cells make decisions, and how we can influence their decisions in biomedical and biotechnological applications.

Personal introduction:
Dr. Yang is a tenured Associate Professor in the Department of Integrative Biology and Physiology and Institute of Quantitative and Computational Biosciences at UCLA. With training in systems genetics and bioinformtics, Dr. Yang’s research group develops and applies systems biology approaches that integrate multidimensional big data to dissect the molecular networks underlying diverse complex diseases and utilize the systems level networks to guide therapeutic development.
